09-OCTOBER-2013 YOUTH NATIONAL TEAM
WANTS TO ASSERT ITSELF

Like the
Men’s National Tem, the junior and youth teams are training for
three weeks now at the sporting facilities of the Carolina Michaelis
High School.
At this 2013/2014 season initial stage, António Guerra, who is the
Junior and Youth National Team Head Coach, makes a distinction between
the preparation of the workgroups:
“This is a stage of rebuilding at a global level. Regarding the junior
athletes, we already know them well because we worked together last May
[2013 World Championship European Qualification], so we know who we can
count with, despite there’s always a door opened to new players. We have
here athletes with a great potential but who need to work more with us,
players who have been appearing on their respective clubs now.
At the same time, as referred by António Guerra, “We’re working with a
group of older athletes who became senior this year, but who are not
ready yet for the Men’s National Team. This group, like a U-21or U-23
National Team, is working to prepare the entrance of theses athletes in
the men’s team. We also are taking these players on Monday, who already
play in some I Division clubs, to prepare the junior team, to enhance
the competition for some players who are not playing regularly in their
own teams.
As for the youth workgroup the situation is different:
“We’re watching and picking the players. This work is really at its
initial stage. Anyway, we’re entering the competition with the Youth
National Team in 2015, but since this is a group that is late on its
preparation, we’ve decided to start right away.
We’re interested so see the players in competition. This group is more
open than others, as we haven’t seen yet some new players in competition.
Also, we’re always open to welcome a new athlete who is indicated by
their club coach for his capabilities and potential”, concluded António
Guerra.
