PORTUGAL WANTS TO AVENGE
LAST YEAR’S SETBACK

Men’s National Team faces tomorrow (14h30 GMT) The Netherlands in the first of two matches for the 2013 FIVB World League Intercontinental Round – Pool C third weekend.

These are two very important matches for both teams as both wish to close the gap to Canada, who leads the Pool C standings but with two more matches played than the Portuguese and the Dutch.

After arriving yesterday evening, the National Team trained today at the Omnisports Apeldoorn, the venue for both FIVB World League matches.

Tiago Violas reminds the last time Portuguese and Dutch played, in late September 2012, for the World League Playouts. At that time, the Dutch team won both matches played at Rotterdam, both decided in the tie-break.
September 1: 3-2 (26-24, 25-23, 24-26, 22-25, 20-18), - 2h15
September 2: 3-2 (20-25, 25-23, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13), - 2h06

“We played The Netherlands for the 2013 World League Qualification but the results were a bit unfair if we look back at our performance in both matches. Now these two games could be like a revenge what would be very important for us thinking about a possible qualification to the final. If we manage to win both matches it will be perfect, if not, at least gather 4 points through the weekend can work for us as well. However the ideal would be winning here both games and then return home to take on Japan and Korea at Guimarães”, stated the Portuguese setter.
