Associação de Jovens da Fonte do Bastardo claimed its first ever Cup of Portugal by downing Vitória SC 3-0 (25-20, 25-15 e 25-21) at the competition’s final, played at Dr. Mário Mexia Multisports Hall, Coimbra. Heavily supported by its fans, Vitória SC started out strongly going up (2-0), but the Azorean side fought its way back to reach the first technical timeout in the lead (8-5). Despite Vitória player’s effort to balance the match, the first set was sealed at 25-20. AJ Fonte Bastardo continued to control the match through the second set, widening the gap (19-10), which eventually was sealed at 25-15, through Pablo Cirqueira, Gilson França and Manuel Silva efforts. The Azorean side started the third set very strongly, going up (4-1 and 6-2). Jardel stood out in the attack stating that the victory was near, which was reached at 25-21, despite the good response of Vitória who had an unconditional support from their fans.
