WEEKEND PREVIEW – CLASH OF THE TITANS
These weekend’s attentions will be set to SC Espinho x SL Benfica for the I Division – Winners Stage Men.
There are many reasons for being a highlight match, mainly because SL
Benfica and SC Espinho are ranking 1st and 2nd with 5 and 4 points clear
to the 3rd respectively.
Other reason is due to fact that the two SL Benfica losses in this year’s
competition were sustained against SC Espinho.
AJ Fonte Bastardo will watch this duel very closely, as the Azorean
stand a chance to close the gap to one of these adversaries in the the
Title Playoff run. [Competition]
On this round, AJF Bastardo will host Vitória SC (4th/14pts) which the
Azorean beat by the minimal margin, last month at Guimarães.
The match between Castelo da Maia GC (5th/12pts) and Esmoriz GC
(6th/7pts) complete the round, which will be fully played on Saturday. [Schedule]
For the Losers Stage, two matches will be held on Saturday – SC Caldas x Leixões SC and AA Espinho x CS Marítimo – and three matches on Sunday, including a hot GC Vilacondense (1st/18pts/5gp) x SC Caldas (2nd/17pts/4gp). In the women’s competition, the
Winners Stage leader, CD Ribeirense, which stands 6 points clear
Leixões SC (2nd), will be hosting Castelo da Maia GC (3rd/12pts), while
Leixões SC (2nd/15pts) visits GDC Gueifães (4th/11pts).
Watching closely Ribeirense’s matches will be the teams of Matosinhos
and Maia, which want to add the maximum points possible to remain in the
run for the Title Playoff. [Competition]
In the Losers Stage the gap between 1st and 4th is only of three points,
which brings great volleyball performances.
Therefore the attention will be on CF Belenenses/Blue (1st/7pts), SC
Braga (2nd/7pts), Lusófona VC (3rd/6pts) and CSD Câmara de Lobos
(4th/5pts).
On Saturday the teams of Madeira, CSD Câmara de Lobos and CS Madeira
(6th/1pt) will host Lusófona VC and SC Braga respectively, changing
opponents in the next day.
CF Belenenses/Blue x GC Sto. Tirso (5th/2pts) will complete the round.
