BEACH VOLLEYBALL WILL INVADE
BEACHES AROUND THE WORLD

From April to December 2013, Beach Volleyball will be at the centre of worldwide attention.

The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) announced the Beach Volleyball World Tour revolutionary calendar for 2013. Being this year organised with a new structure, the World Tour consists in 20 stages: 11 Grand Slams, 8 Opens and 1 World Championship. The tour will be the more extensive in the competition’s history, extending for 9 months, from April to December.

The World Championship will be held from 1st to 7th July in the Polish city of Stare Jablonki.

Vicente Araújo, Portuguese Volleyball Federation President and FIVB Beach Volleyball Council stated:
“Following a 2012 season of great achievement, it was necessary to create a new vision to capitalize, from 2013 forward, the excellent moment that Beach Volleyball experienced in the last months.
The objective is to create new opportunities for the players and a sustainable structure for Beach Volleyball”.

The European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) also announced a provisional calendar for the events taking place on the European sands, among which, the European Championship Final (men and women) stands out, set to 30th July to 4th August, at Klagenfurt, Austria.

Is worth remembering that the European University Sports Association (EUSA) granted the Porto Academic Federation, the 9th European Universities Beach Volleyball Championship organization, which will occur from 23rd - 28th July 2013, as well as the World University Beach Volleyball Championship 2014, these granted by the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
The organization will be carried by FAP, along with the Porto University and the Polytechnic Institute of Porto, under the aegis of the Academic University Sports Federation, being FPV the institutional partner of the event.

This will be the fifth time in four years that Porto will host international Beach Volleyball competitions, following the U-18 European Championship, the U-19 World Championship, bth in 2010, and the U-23 European Championship in 2011, organised by the Portuguese Volleyball Federation.

Joana Neto and Mariana Filipe Alexandre claimed a silver medal at the U-18 European Championship, while the team Fabrício Barros/Januário Alvar obtained bronze at the 8th European Universities Championship held in Málaga, Spain.
In 2012, Joana Resende/Tânia Oliveira and Januário Silva/Sebastião Alves were ranked 9th at the 6th World University Championship, held in Maceió, Brazil.
