Joaquim Manuel Oliveira Vilela was re-elected President of the Volleyball Association of Porto (AVP) for a 4-year-term (2012-2016). Vilela gathered the majority of the votes at the Ordinary General Meeting, held last Monday in the amphitheater of the House of Sports, located in the city of Porto. In AVP’s presidency for more than 30 years, Joaquim Vilela said that “AV Porto will continue to develop the relationships with those who want volleyball’s grow in Portugal, despite the healthy difference of opinion”. “We believe that our sport structure has to be reinforced and adapted for the times to come. The economic crisis among other issues could be an obstacle, which only can be overcome through the joint work of AVP, FPV, Clubs, Regional Associations and Class Associations”, stated Vilela. In conclusion, “we are highly motivated to lead this process. The unconditional support to all volleyball actors allow us to look into the future with optimism and hope. We want to enhance the conditions for the practice of our sport, but only promising hard work and dedication in all of our actions”.
