2013 WORLD LEAGUE: NATIONAL TEAM
DEPARTS TO THE NETHERLANDS
 

On the horizon of the Senior Men National Team continues to be the 2013 CEV European Championship Qualification Tournament which will be held 7-9 and 15-16 of September.

Before that, Italian Flavio Gulinelli’s team will face another challenge: the 2013 World League playoff. The two matches are scheduled for the 1st and 2nd of September at 17h00 and 13h00 respectively (local time), in Rotterdam. The Netherlands recently won the 2012 European League and defeated the Dominican Republic in the first round 2013 World League playoffs.

Therefore, the Dutch are a complicated adversary, as recognized by the National Head Coach.
“They have a strong team. Important players such as both middle-blockers that have returned to the national team, and they also can count on very talented players like Rauwerdink [Wing Spiker] and a promissory setter, Abdelaziz.”

“The Dutchmen have a strong service in suspension, because all the players have technical abilities to perform it. To overcome that, we need to work our reception thus being able to continuously side-out and then develop our game.”

“Our path until now is positive in a way that myself could not expect before the beginning or practice. The friendly matches against the Czech Republic and the ones played in Slovenia were important for growing our team. Having to play away is never easy, but we will do our best. This playoff will be though for both teams.”

The Head Coach also enhanced the campaign that will be carried out by FPV in the Fight Against Hunger, during the 1st tournament of the 2013 European Championship Qualifying Second Round, from 7 to 9 of September in the Sports Hall of Vila do Conde [Related news]:

“I believe this is a good initiative. This is the first time I’m involved in such kind of initiatives and I consider that honorable in its intent. I stand by the idea that sports should be working closely to the real life situations and aid those who live with difficulties. I hope this cause can attract as many people as possible and with their support we can combine good results to this campaign that deserves all our attention.”
The National Team departs tomorrow to the Dutch city of Rotterdam, where the 2013 World League playoff matches take place.
