GERMANY SEALS EASY WIN

Germany stayed top of Pool D in the FIVB Volleyball World League 2012 on Thursday as they clinched a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-21) victory over Portugal in Guimarães.

A very aggressive serve, backed up by an effective block and fast attack gave few chances to a very willing, but young Portuguese team that still made many errors in crucial times during the match.

Germany began well pressuring through their serve and winning points through their block and attack. Portugal reacted but Germany went ahead further. A block from Carlos Fidalgo decreased the difference, but the inefficiency of the locals serve continued as Germany closed the set.

In the second set, Germany was once again stronger but two points in the attack from Carlos Fidalgo and Alexandre Ferreira renewed Portugal’s hope. They evened the score but aggressive serves from Schops and Bohme gave Germany the lead once again. Three errors made everything harder for the Portuguese team before they eventually lost out as Germany went ahead 2-0.

Germany once again illustrated their confidence in their strength with their block proving too much for the Portuguese to overcome. In the end, a late Portugal surge was not enough as the Germans romped home to victory.
