PORTUGUESE REFEREE
IN THE OLYMPIC GAMES

The official Portuguese referee Rui Carvalho will be present in the next
edition of the Olympic Games from the 27th of July to the 12th of August 2012 in
London.
Rui Jorge Miranda Carvalho was named by the International Volleyball
Federation (FIVB) for Beach Volleyball matches, becoming the second Portuguese referee to be in the Olympic Games after the participation of
Avelino Azevedo.
The nomination for the "greatest show in the world" was a surprise to
the international referee:
"I was not expecting. I was at the school and looked my e-mail.
It was when I saw my nomination for the Olympic Games. I was very
satisfied. I have already had the opportunity to speak with another
referee friend of mine, who is Spanish, which was also nominated for the first
time for the Olympics, and we both recognize that it is a dream come true,
because, there is no competition in the world that is above the Olympic
Games ... It's the icing on top of the cake. After two final World Cups, in
which the benefits and feedbacks were good, there's always that hope
that we can be called for the Olympic Games. Yes, I think the
Portuguese referees have evolved in recent years. There has been an
excellent level of evidence from the European Confederation and the
International Federation and proving that are the numerous appointments of Portuguese
referees for Beach Volleyball as well as Indoor".
Rui Carvalho will still be present in the following stages of the FIVB
Beach Volleyball World Tour:
23th to 30th of April (Open Myslowice, Poland)
21st to 28th of May (Open in Prague, Czech Republic)
05th to 13th of June (Grand Slam in Moscow, Russia)
24th of June to the 2nd of July (Grand Slam in Stavanger, Norway)
08th to 16th of July (Grand Slam in Berlin, Germany)
